Using 3 Forms of Prayer for
Physical Healing
One day, I had an attack of vertigo with accompanying nausea. It could not have come at a worse time. I had so much work to do.
The Breath Prayer
I said my breath prayer, a form of prayer to which I have resorted many times when I am confused or overwhelmed, or have a special or urgent need.
On this occasion my breath prayer was simply:
‘Lord give me healing’.
As I went about the day, I had no doubt in my heart that God would give me healing, since Jesus healed all who came to Him when He was on the earth and He is the same God yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
Praying the Scriptures
Then I read a key passage of scripture that deals with our human health and general wellbeing, Proverbs 4:20-22.
I read it s-l-o-w-l-y.
This is a special way to ‘pray’ the scriptures.Â
S-L-O-W is the only way that the words of any passage in scripture can descend from your head into your heart.
This is extremely important, as your heart is the part of you that matters most to God, and where God speaks to you most directly, where He heals you, and where He has chosen to live.
Then I forgot all about it.
I went about my duties, making sure to take periods of physical, mental and emotional rest in between.
The next night, as I was getting ready to turn out the light and go to bed, I heard the Lord say to me very softly but with crystal clarity:
‘Keep them in your heart!’
I knew at once that He was referring to His words of scripture from Proverbs that I had allowed to sink into my heart the day before:
My daughter, pay attention to what I say;
Turn your ear to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight,
Keep them within your heart;
For they are life to those who find them
And health to one’s whole body.
                                                  Proverbs 4:20 -22 NIV
These 4 words were the Lord’s way of letting me know that Jesus would heal me if I kept these words in my heart.
Jesus’ healing words took the primary place of importance over my vertigo.
My very inconvenient vertigo soon disappeared.
Do You Understand That There’s a Direct Connection Between Your Human Spirit and Your General Wellbeing?
Just a few short generations ago, the general population didn’t fully appreciate the role played by human spirituality in a person’s —and a nation’s —health and wellbeing.
Today, thankfully, that has largely changed.
Many religious and non-religious health professionals now understand that a person’s spirituality might be the most important part of her/his human make-up.
Why?
Because the quality of your spiritual health affects for better or worse every other aspect of your humanity and life.
Carl Jung demonstrated this many years ago.
And in the years since, numerous scientists have affirmed the undeniable, intimate connection between the human spirit and the human brain, body, and emotions.
Praying with your heart, is a guaranteed way to maintain the health of your spirit.
This, in turn, ensures that the health of your human brain, body, and emotions are also maintained.
Praying with and from Your Heart
When you discover how to pray with your heart, it becomes much easier to keep God’s words in your heart (‘Turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, Keep them within your heart …’).
They become embedded deep within your unconscious being.
You see, when you learn to free your heart of ‘clutter’, God’s words can rise to the top and reign supreme over, and eventually completely replace, all the ‘baggage’ you carry around inside you!
This is precisely how God heals you —physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally.
This is why praying with your heart is always fruitful.
This is why it always gets results.
And when you use the breath prayer at the same time for a special need, the two prayers together are a win-win.
They are mutually reinforcing.

I’m Jan Weel.Â
In 1984, at the age of 35, in answer to my prayer for urgent help during a personal trauma, God introduced me to a simple and utterly reliable way to experience firsthand, directly, one-on-one, His presence, love and rest.
The early church had prayed in this way. In fact, this is the very same way of prayer that Jesus himself taught you and me.
