Grandmums and Great Grandmums have an indispensable role to play in the lives of a wide variety of people, not just their own biological families.

This has never been more the case than in our current world.

If you are a Grandmum, never underestimate your vital contribution to our world.

And if you have a Grandmum, never take her for granted.

Grandmums must never buy into the belief that once a person gets older, she should be dispensed with and put aside.

This is often the world’s view, but it is never God’s.

In fact, God wants your active ministry to the whole world to continue until you take your final breath!

Your Role has Positive Repercussions in Every Single Aspect of Human Society

Here’s the thing:

Your role has positive repercussions in every single aspect of human society:

its mental, physical and emotional health
its faith and spirituality
its politics
its education
its finances

You see, as a Christian grandma, you possess a rare kind of wisdom and understanding that many younger folk don’t yet have:

And He wishes you to be an equally great gift to your grandchildren —and not just to your own biological grandkids but to ALL children and teenagers!

This doesn’t mean that you should wear yourself out rushing to impart your influence at every opportunity! No. QUALITY counts far more than QUANTITY!

Even 5 – 10 minutes in your company can make a difference to those with whom you interact!

The highest quality of support you can ever give your grandchildren is to love them with God’s special brand of unconditional, no-strings-attached LOVE.

In fact, this is the only guaranteed way by which you will truly be able to reveal to them who God is.

This is the way in which you’ll motivate them with a desire to experience the Lord for themselves.

This is the most impactful way in which YOU truly become for them an agent of the Lord’s ‘no-strings-attached’ love!

In fact, when you are a grandmother, all people, not just family, and not just children and teenagers, expect that you will be a source of love, comfort, and healing.

Let’s ask the Lord to help us not to disappoint them!

The 5 Vital Reasons

Reason # 1

We find ourselves living in a world where extreme negativity and insecurity prevail —a world that’s reeling in dangerously excessive human pain and violence.

Believe it or not, the ONLY remedy for this is LOVE.

But it MUST be God’s special brand of vast, unconditional love.

Human love is simply too limited, too conditional, too needy, and too volatile.

And here’s the thing:

God’s special brand of love includes…

love for yourself
love for all others
love for those who do you big wrong

Let’s be sure of one thing:

The Lord’s love is NEVER exclusive!

God knows (and we sometimes forget) that people of ALL personalities, ages, and backgrounds need love.

When we don’t extend God’s love to those we don’t like and/or those who have wronged us, we don’t truly love ourselves.

And we don’t truly love the Lord.

“If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them!

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your heavenly Father will not forgive your sins.

When grandmothers are able to reach out to people with love, positive things happen. e. g. people feel more secure, more at peace, less vulnerable to violence in mind, body, or spirit, and far better health —mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

But here’s the thing, Grandmums:

KNOWING that the Lord loves you WITHOUT CONDITIONS makes it much easier to love others, even those who wound you.

And only God’s special brand of love can do that.

The Lord’s love contains within it a power that your and my mere human love simply can’t have.

Human love is conditional.

Reason # 2

Parents and their children are currently struggling with

war
an increase of households where both parents need to work jobs and therefore kids have to make do with other caregivers
increasing family breakdowns
the ever-present threat of various forms of addictions (to sex, the internet, smart phones, alcohol, drugs, etc.)
limited or no access to health care
insecure food availability
insecure jobs or actual job loss
insufficient money, even for essentials

Reason # 3

Your teenaged grandkids are our world’s next leaders and influencers.

They need the self-confidence that total acceptance by loving Grandmothers gives them.

You and I know that teenagers have a special need to KNOW that they are accepted just as they are, without conditions.

But you can only give such acceptance if YOU too, know that you are accepted just as you are!

And only the regular, repeated experience of the Lord’s love for you can assure you of this.

They also need the wisdom of grandmothers to provide an anchor for them in tough times.

And your wisdom must always be imparted with the sweetness of the Lord’s love.

Reason # 4

In addition to being a source of love for your grandchildren, you are also a source of personal faith and a healthy spirituality for them.

I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

2 Timothy 1:5 NIV

Grandchildren need a robust, meaningful faith and a meaningful spiritual life.

This is their only reliable antidote to insecurity and worry when life gets tough and ‘impossible’. The Lord doesn’t want them to fall victim to the mental ravages of worry.

So don’t worry about these things, saying, “What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts og unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Reason # 5

You Are an ‘Honorary’ Grandmum Too

Some of your most important ‘grandmothering’ will be accomplished among kids and teenagers who are not biologically related to you.

You won’t be an exclusively biologically-related Grandmother.

You will also be an ‘honorary’ Grandmum.

In actual fact, you’ll be the only Grandmum some kids will ever know.

You can do this

remotely through prayer and intercession (your quiet times spent in the Lord’s presence and love are an especially powerful way to do this)
directly through your physical presence

What the Lord Has Promised All Grandparents

I am your God and will take care of you until you are old and gray. I made you and will care for you; I will give you help and rescue you.

Isaiah 46:4 Good News Translation

Even in old age they (grandparents) will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green.

And to ALL Christian women, which includes all grandmothers:

No longer will you need the sun to shine by day,
nor the moon to give its light by night,
for the Lord your God will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.

Older women likewise are to be reverent in behaviour…They are to teach what is good…

And Remember…

When you need encouragement, remember that the Lord already knows your needs even before you ask (Matthew 6:8)!

And remember, too, that the Lord hears and responds to your cries even before you cry out to Him (Isaiah 65:24).

Also remember that you and I can ask God on a daily —and sometimes on an hourly basis if we are experiencing a special crisis or trauma —to give us the faith to continue to believe these promises through thick and thin.

As you give God permission to love you (see my FREE Guide, How to Regain, and Maintain, God’s Lasting Inner Peace and Joy: A Guaranteed Way to Experience God’s Presence, Love and Rest One-On-One ), and as you accept His invitation to walk hand-in-hand with Him (Matthew 11:28 -30), here’s what you can most surely expect:

You will gradually —but with increasing certainty —come to understand your scarcely believable birthright as a daughter of the King:

Namely, that God exists solely to find you in each and every experience of your life, good and bad; and having found you, to nourish you with His unique brand of love right smack in the very midst of them!
